Sons Of Mammal - Overpass Cafe (2008)
Image
Quote:
Sons of Mammal released a very limited edition EP in 2000 and another on vinyl and CD in 2003 but are only now getting around to finally dropping their first full-length CD. The wait was worth it, as Overpass Cafe blows away their previous work. Xczircles, who also produces most of the tracks for his Escape Artists group, contributes some of his best tracks, assisted a few times by Amnesia. However, it’s Circuitt who really comes through with some of the most interesting productions. The stripped down minimalism of his “Perverted Bassment” tumbles along like shoes in a dryer, while his wild west-inflected “The Seesaw Chronicles” becomes the album highlight when Xczircles and Amnesia lay their “Broken Language”-style delivery over it. And then Circuitt also comes through with another favourite, “Artcore” featuring V8, whose rapid, exasperated raps fit nicely with Xczircles’ guttural vocals, forcibly spit like they taste disgusting, and Amnesia’s smoother, elastic voice. They also bring along their respective crews — Escape Artists and Skeleton Crew — for the only other guest appearances on posse cut “Birds Eye-view.” While Overpass Cafe probably won’t impress fans of club or radio rap, Sons of Mammal are ready-made for fans of envelope pushing, leftfield, literate hip-hop.

1. overpass
2. artcore ft. V8
3. city of a circumstance
4. autumn in L.A.
5. the seesaw chronicles
6. merge
7. interchange
8. birds eye view ft. Univs., Aamir, and KJ (of the Skeleton Crew/Escape Artists)
9. lakewalking
10. ghostown strangler
11. perverted bassment
12. long lost
13. landscape
14. cafe

Odd Thomas - The Divine Use Of Animosity And Ridicule (2006)
Image
Quote:
Odd Thomas is a new face in the hip hop market and he his hard work and well-crafted lyrics have done quite well in turning the heads of many listeners. In fact, Odd Thomas is currently touring homes across the west coast with The Listener on the second leg of the Listener Tour of Homes. If you get a chance to catch one of those shows, i’d highly recommend it. Otherwise, get ahold of the EP as soon as possible. It’s pretty nice and i’m looking forward to more from Odd Thomas.

Check out GDP http://www.myspace.com/g6d6p6 He's pretty unknown but his music is really good
Quote:
GDP is a barely 20-year-old kid from New Jersey who's already spitting fire on his debut, Involvement. With a pen that's already leaking lyrical cleverness, memorable tunes with original sounding and diverse beats and a flow that's rugged but punctual and intelligible á la Immortal Technique, Involvement is a seriously promising release.

This might not come as a huge shock to anyone already familiar with Division East Records, a New Jersey-based label with a couple mix tapes to its name and practically a farming system for underground hip-hop in the Garden State. Involvement could definitely be one of their most accessible yet accomplished releases, though.

You'd think GDP had hitwriters team up with him for "Namedroppers," a stupidly catchy number that one prays him or his label has already sent to college radio. The second track in, GDP offers a humorous but scathing little indictment upon those guilty of the action implied in its title (some quoted examples abound).

Some of his labelmates pop in to spice things up. GDP could probably carry an EP like this well enough on his own, but G. Wallace helps make the 'timing is everything'-themed "Potential" a fun romp, while the smooth "ReEvaluate" with Shape is a relaxed but energetic cut backed by its key, lazy horn line. The two tracks even sandwich a soft, well-done interlude in "Halftime."

Involvement is crafted with careful thought, an attention that helps nearly each one of its songs stand out. GDP is already up (just check out the back cover); Involvement ensure he's also coming.

Some really nice stuff in there. Thanks, boys. I really like that N1nthcloud and Sadistik. Tried the Ecid, but he annoys me after some time, too much free for all in his music, I find.

Any others that I should try? I can't update my computer to adobe 9 and since myspace requires that now, I'm fucked. Thanks!
